300g pasta (any shape you like)

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

200ml heavy cream

1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, roughly chopped

Extra basil leaves for garnish

Instructions
 

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the rest and set aside.

    In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to let it burn.

      Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine. Add the sugar, oregano, and red pepper flakes, then let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes.

        Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream. Allow the sauce to thicken slightly, cooking for an additional 5 minutes.

          Mix in the grated Parmesan cheese until fully melted and incorporated into the sauce.

            If the sauce is too thick, gradually add reserved pasta water until you reach your desired consistency.

              Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing to coat all the noodles with the creamy sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

                Stir in the chopped fresh basil for a bright flavor boost.
